Quality of PhD Thesis for Doctoral Degrees Awarded to be scanned and studied by UGC.

New Delhi : The concerned raise by various quarters about the quality of research in the country and duplication of subjects on which Phd is done has finally belled the alarm to conduct a review of the quality of PhD thesis for which doctoral degrees have been awarded in last 10 years by varsities across the country.
A senior official of the higher education regulator stated “The UGC is planning to conduct a study on Quality of PhD thesis in Indian universities. The scope of the study will involve the PhD thesis awarded in different disciplines by various central universities, state universities, state private universities and deemed-to-be universities in last 10 years. The study has to be pan India and may give findings at national as well as state-level with regard to the quality of PhD thesis indicating the quality aspects proposed by the interested parties".
The center has invited proposals from all over india and is an open opportunity for commissioning the study, keeping in view that India was lagging behind in research and quality of journals.
Aiding to this an acclaimed geneticist Deepak Pental, a former Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University said "“We are spending peanuts on R&D at universities. Many private universities and State universities are starved of Central research funds”. and through this UGC survey he hopes higher spending on research.
